Ushering at PlayMakers Repertory Company

See a performance at PlayMakers for free by volunteering to usher. Ushers take tickets, distribute programs, direct patrons to their seats, assist house management at intermission, and clean up the seating area after the show. It is a fun and easy way to volunteer and experience PlayMakers!

  • Your duties will require you to be able to stand for 30 minutes at a time, walk up and down stairs, and bend over to pick up items from the floor. You must also be friendly and helpful with our patrons. If you can’t do these duties, please do not sign up to usher.
  • Ushers must be at least 15 years old.
  • Sign up for ushering using the binder in the lobby or by calling the Box Office (962-PLAY). We will need your name, email, and phone number.
  • Do not sign up for a day that already has 6 ushers – we will turn you away.
  • Do not come to usher on a day you have not signed up for – we will turn you away.
  • Arrive 1 hour before the performance. Please don’t be late. If you are late, you may not be allowed to usher again.
  • Wear a white top and black pants or skirt. You may be turned away or not be allowed to usher again if you wear clothes other than a white top and black pants or skirt.
  • Do not bring friends or family members that have not signed up for ushering. We will turn them away.
  • You may request to do a certain job such as ticket taking, distributing programs, or directing patrons to their seats - but the House Manager will make assignments at his or her discretion. EVERYONE must help to clean up the seating area at the end of the performance.
  • Ushers who do not do their assigned duties will not be allowed to usher again.
  • Opening Nights: Ushering for opening night is by invitation only. To usher for opening night, you must be able and willing to stay for the party after the show to assist with carrying tables, and cleaning up after the party. If you are interested in ushering for opening night, contact the House Manager.
